The surprise to me is just how many german forces were thrown at the East West American front while pinning the British and Canadian forces. The ultimate collapse of the Falaise Gap also undid the Pin producing heavy equipment and manpower losses and made the German withdrawal necessarily precipatous. They immediately had to collapse the extent of their front which was always shrinking badly.

For that it is well worth seeing
