Fearing Feral Hog Apocalypse - Texas Acts

They all have to be insane.  That means a million sows all able to produce a litter of several more every year.  These hogs must be actively harvested and put into our meat system. That means that the wild herds need to be identied and actually owned as was true traditionally when they were set loose in the woods.

The sooner this is done the better.  Our whole approach to the wild generally is heading for an apocalypse in which massive feral herds on perfectly good game animals are no longer been actively reduced by human hunting.

Quite simply we either do the job or Wolves and Grizzlies will and they will both hunt us as well.  Neither will it take generations either.  Deer herds are already unmanageable by simple hunting.  we no longer have the boots on the ground.

But we do have the tools to monitor and manage and harvest as needed...

Texas Hog Hunters Association VP: 'We don’t think poison is the way to go'

Announcing the “feral hog apocalypse” is within reach, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has approved of the first pesticide targeting wild pigs, CBS Dallas reports.

The estimated 2.5 million feral hogs in Texas cost an estimated $50 million a year in damage to Texas agriculture, according to the Austin American-Statesman. In addition to the damage to crops and livestock tanks, hogs cost untold damage to suburban yards.

Miller said they will use the pesticide, Kaput Feral Hog Lure, as bait food laced with warfarin which is the same drug used to kill rats. It can also be prescribed by doctors, in smaller doses, to prevent blood clots

But the move has upset hunters, who’ve gathered more than 1,200 signatures in opposition within two days.
