There are plenty of excellent uses for teflon, just not on the top of a sheet of metal likely to have occasional hotspots. Of course the company has claimed otherwise for decades. The fact is that all carbon based compounds will reduce to a layer of carbon period at around 600 degrees or much sooner.
I have mostly avoided Teflon all my life because of just that. In fact i use a cast Iron Skillet almost exclusively. Now the science is making things even less attractive.
I know that they are heavy. Maybe you need strengthening exercise. Otherwise go out and buy on and toss the junk. Everything else ever bought has become junk in my household except the pan and that was the first thing i bought.

So once the dangers of Teflon were nailed into my head I began using the healthiest alternative I knew of: stainless steel. I quickly realized why so many people have trouble with these, however.
