We have always known that if you drill deep enough, that the rock is hot. what these guys are doing is drilling deep and then running laterals to meet another well doing the same thing. They did it sucessfully six times. WOW!
Now what this means it has become possible to enter a deep hot dry formation with a complex closed loop system that brings hot fluids to the surface continously forever.. Our civilization needs two types of energy. One obviously is electrical potential. This is a lousy way to produce heat which is the other form we need lots of.
now imagine pumping hot water throughout New York and making every home warm forever. We do this in downtown Vancouver even if the actual energy source is natural gas. My point is that this approach is ideal for every town and city. and potentialkly local.
and yes a rankin cycle engine can draw off that heat to produce electrical power as well.
what is huge is the serious industry and money behind it. they think they can make it work. i have studied this for decades and this was a serious maybe ,but now we will know.
now imagine drilling such wells into the James Bay lowland to heat living complexes and greenhouse complexes.
