Canada Released Thousands of Horses Into A Dead Tundra With ZERO GRASS

This is huge and unexpected.  Large hooved animals compact the snow allowing the cold to penetrate the permafrost.  more surprising we have the animals already expanding their numbers past 5,000.

one hell of an experiment and it restored a grassy tundra.  we now have a working protocol for this nothern most biome that truly matters.

We clearly need to get on with animals in the Boreal forest and stop prejudging what is possible.  These horses have a hair and undercoat  four times greater thhan usual.  How about fur covered cows?

When hundreds of cold-adapted horses were released into a barren Yukon tundra at minus fifty degrees Celsius, critics condemned the venture as an expensive, catastrophic failure. Five years later, space agency satellites recorded an environmental reversal so drastic that the sub-Arctic map had to be physically redrawn. Across the northern hemisphere, billions of tons of carbon sit trapped beneath degrading permafrost. As rising temperatures trigger thawing and explosive methane venting, traditional engineering solutions have repeatedly stalled. This bold Canadian initiative bypassed high-tech machinery entirely, wagering that nature’s original megafauna could act as living geo-engineers to stabilize the subterranean landscape. By stomping down heavy snow cover, the herds eliminated thermal ground insulation, allowing piercing winter air to deep-freeze the underlying permafrost. In doing so, these resilient animals rebuilt collapsed soil biomes, revived long-lost plant species through natural seed distribution, and suppressed thermokarst erosion across hundreds of thousands of hectares.
