I could have built this 20,000 or even 40,000 BP. Using a stone adze using a back chop system and cedar plank splitting.
As I have posted for twenty years now. The most viable route has always been along the western coast and before the elimination of the Ice sheet, this included the contental shelf.
New work has nicely estabished that the interior channel became vegetated late around 10,600 BP. Verification was done using EDNA from dated clay beds. It does not get much better. so we have a steady human flow then but also it means that all prior populations came by sea. This is a real boundary in time.
Before all that we do have speculative narritives but they are all acceptable and open to DNA testing. It will take time but we will shake it all out which is good news..
Most dating only picks up on recent carbon survivals and older evedence declines exponentially. Thus early cultural narritives are difficult to pin down. After all villages live and die over long spans of time and folks move on.
For generations, we were taught that the first Americans arrived by crossing a frozen land bridge from Siberia and trekking through an “ice-free corridor” into the heart of North America. But new groundbreaking DNA evidence has rewritten that story. Scientists studying ancient environmental DNA from the once-frozen corridor in Canada have uncovered when life — plants, animals, and ecosystems — actually returned after the Ice Age. Their findings reveal that this corridor wasn’t open to humans until long after people were already living deep within the Americas. This discovery challenges the traditional “Clovis-first” theory and strengthens the case for a daring coastal migration — where early seafarers followed the Pacific shoreline thousands of years before the ice melted. Join us as we explore how ancient DNA, buried in glacial sediments for over 15,000 years, is transforming our understanding of the first Americans and the routes they took to reach a new world.
