I began reading individual eye witness reports on all types of cryptids around twenty five years ago at an estimated rate of one per day. This pretty well means that I have read about 10,000 reports. I estimate there are another 10,000 out there that i have not read.
The majority identify as bigfoot reports. The second most common now are giant Sloth reports. After that we have handfuls of reports on a wide range of creatures that largely lack a proper reporting loci, although that is improving as they gain critical mass. This includes a number of separate flying creatures in particular, quite able to go to ground during daylight.
What is important is that all eye witnesses usually make an initial ID, however tentative and confused and then capture what i define as a paint stroke. For instance, i just read a long report in which a victim was stalked and driven into the lockup for a wind tower. the creature was massive but it was also dark. As he locked the gate, the creature forced its fingers in. The witness observed claws on the fingers. Not obviously large but claws and surely retracted. From this we identify a Giant Sloth instead of a Bigfoot. That is what thousands of paint strokes create for you. Bigfoot has nails and the Sloth uses those claws to climb trees.
The image above describes a male Giant sloth, well attested by known fossil evidence. Most witnesses do not survive an encounter and are carried off dead and cached far away.
It was in the right country as well.
The real take home is that dangerous cryptids are about nocturally and they are hunting as well. We always were careful at night, and accidentily so today because we all use vehicles when moving at night generally. There is also way more of them than we wish to admit.
Fortunately they stay with the wilds and woodlands and we only go there in daytime. Yet 250,000 Bigfoot is reasonable and 50,000 Giant Sloth is also reasonable all through North America.
The problem is public education. Folks are been stalked and then told to forget it all after been scared legitimately to death.
