Space elevator update.

The space elevator  concept is getting serious attention.  Watch this video for a neat review and update.

In the meantime, the problem for earth but not the moon or mars is that an equatorial rigged system puts far too much tension on all imaginable cables and that includes long nano tubes made from carbon\.

So do we have an alternative?  How about a thether angled over the pole itself?  Is there any way to keep the counter weight up there?  I do not see that but then we really need to prove that out as pleny of options open up.  They all likely come crashing down but we do need to try.

Think a dozen thethers climbing up a collar and then rotating a counter weight(s) around that collar to maintain it all.  why not try that at hte equator and without going to geostationary orbit.  also

a rotating collar could maintain one g in gravity as  well.
