Pleistocene Noncormity and the Grand Canyon

 

I originally posted on the pleistocene nonconformity around twenty years ago and have added bits to the story as data has come in.  I will not actually deswcribe what happened as none of this is easily locked down, but it is suffice to say that it was the global event described in the Bible some 12,900 BP.  it eliminated the Atlantean world now discovered in Northwest Africa.  This appears to have been an advanced stone age culture comparable to the known aztec and Inca and Maya.  We simply do not know more now.

This event started the breakup of the northern ice Age and do understand that the center of the north Pole shifted southward about fifteen degrees through Hudson Bay to accomplish this.  Please accept this idea for now as that is actually a long disertation.

The Ice Cap itself essentially covered the entire boreal forest.  Rather obviously, the Great Lakes did not exist at all.  what did exist was Lake Agassi which covered lands from the Boreal Forest to the rocky mountain foothills and southward down into Wyoming abutting the Colorado river Basin in particular and surely some part of the Mississippi basin.  All this means that for the five million years that the ice age was active, this lake exited by way of the Colorado river.  Also recall that the rocky mountains were also hosting the Columbia Ice field.

However you tell the story it is obvious that ample water scoured the sedimentary stack we see in the Grand Canyon.

and this all changed 12,900 years ago.

I should also note that a crustal shift also adjusted land elevations making current elevations non conforming.  And of course. Hudson Bay itself has been steadily rising with the removal of the ice.  And do undetrstand that Lake Agassi was there for the life span of the Ice Age.

At least we have a water source for the Grand Canyon up to its scale.
