The Trade WAR Offramp
What iis poorly understood is just how conservative past trade relations happen to be and a Global Trade War opens up the acceleration of established trends. It was all going to happen anyway, but just not now.
What has happened is that this trade war has made the position of several Canadian border States unstable in terms of their synergy with USA Federal power. The obvious ones are the old northwest which is really part of the Great Lakes Litoreal and best needs to feed into the Seaway. The Assault on Canadan Trade was ultimately an assault on them.
Thus opening framework discussion leading to political confederation is now indicated for two reasons. first, it may well be possible and popular for the citizens. Secondly it allows those govenors to negotiate their posture in the federal arrangement from a position of strength. After all they have a vital stake in bilateral trade.
I also think that extending this commonwealth framework is a useful strategy for Canada, particualrly if it is simulataneously extended to England, ireland and scotland. Canada has a population of 40,000,000 people and is in no position to dominate either particpant but with adding 75,000,000 from te British isles and plausibly 75,000,000 from the northern tier of States ,we suddenly have a codominion of 200,000,000 which is sufficient to balance both the remaing states and the EU.
What has to be said though is any such construct must apply the rule of twelve and this will take years to properly establish. Yet the Rule will end centripital forcing and all big Man posturing. None of this is meant to be quick ,but to be established as working conferances allowing all issues to be opened and resolved. With formal unity as a sought for ideal.
It is becoming very apparent that this tariff war was improvised and never really thought through even when we had ample knowledge to avoid disaster.
In fact the only credable option left for the USA is a rapid complete reversal and even an apology to its trading partnetrs. Can Don survive this? He is also visiby fumbling as well.
