Look at that map and understand that russia has everything that matters economically. That is a pretty weak negotiating position for the Ukraine. For it to get better. the Ukraine has to decisively defeat russia in the field at the CORP level and I do not see that. I see local effectiveness at division level in Kursk but not more. this at least has drained Russia's reserves which would be valuable if that CORP existed.
Seriously, NATO war aims have been fully met which was to utterly waste Russian and even NATO hardware.
The best strategic option for Russia is to now end the war, submit to a border commision with likely preconditions and way more important, join NATO and integrate into the Western defense industry.
The best for the Ukraine is to establish a final border and extract as much as possible econoomically. This could be almost impossible without decisively defeating russia at the CORP level which is also a real risk for russia.

Ukrainian losses to Russia since war began.
For the first time since the war began Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenzkyy announced that he would be willing to cede territory to Russia in order to end the Russia-Ukrainian/NATO war.
Zelenskyy added that the agreement would also recommend a “NATO umbrella” of protection for territory still under its control.
Zelensky made the comments in his first interview since Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election. In his interview with Sky News he made the remarks that he would be willing to cede ground to Russia in exchange for NATO membership.
It is likely that Russia will not agree to Zelensky’s demands.
