A periodic table of highly charged ions





Never tnought that this might need to be rethought, but sorting in terms of ionization matters in terms of fabrication, so we have value in this idea.

We are also entering an age in which elements will be individually applied to produce novel structures and uses.  Been able to do that should allow us to master superconductance.

I have watched progress in materials research forever and do know it is always iincremental.  Think lithium battery thirty years on.  all other battery protocols face the same crawl.

The original periodic table of elements is ordered according to the number of protons there are in an atom of each element, which works well for chemists in general. Not so much for some physicists, however, who are interested in finding high-energy ions, or atoms that have lost many electrons. Researchers have reimagined the periodic table into one that orders ions according to the number of electrons they contain, which could let us predict elusive "forbidden transitions" and perhaps build more accurate atomic clocks.
