Ryan Hansen Details the SpaceX Starship Catch Which Could Happen Tomorrow

What is interesting is that there is zero landing gear.  THe entire task is taken on by the launch tower.  Thus all related weight remains on the ground.

this is still a tall order, but from this item it is clear that they are also close to getting it right.  This obviously will evolve into the standard for all primary launch boosters simply because you lose none of those engines and can quickly refuel and launch again.

Suddenly global launches of one hundred ton cargos from New York to Shanghai on  a daily basis from a space port is no longer impossible.  It may well be cheap.

Better yet this is the volume scale needed to support our bicycle space station.  We could even launch the core hub one complex girder component at a time to assemble in orbit.  And suspension cable can be coiled nicely.
.

So yes, we have clear engineering path forward with this launch system.

Ryan Hansen Details the SpaceX Starship Catch Which Could Happen Tomorrow

October 12, 2024 by Brian Wang

SpaceX is preparing for what could be a launch and catch of the booster tomorrow. Ryan Hansen has an excellent video with renderings of all mechanisms and processes that will be used on the Mechazilla launch tower.

A successful catch will mean recovery of the 33 engines in the booster and the entire super heavy booster. It will mean that eventually a booster could be relaunched in hours instead of weeks.

While catching the world’s largest booster sounds insane, this video attempts to explain the systems that will be involved and how they function.
