Russia's T-14 Armata Main Battle Tank

I am sure that these are not meant to to stand up to NATO hardware particularly well except as a gun platform were fire weight matters.  It will likely convert easily into a robot managed system which is the real next generation here.

What it can do is be sold in huge volumes to just about every old customer and that is the main reason to bring this system out.  Thus i expect it to sell well.

Russia was certainly overdue for a serious modernization of their battle hardware.  Otherwise it looks like a neat efficient design with a huge gun.

Russia's T-14 Armata Main Battle Tank

By 2020 Russia plans to have an almost entirely modernized tank fleet as well as a completely updated combat vehicle line-up, all based off a single chassis, the “Armata” Universal Combat Platform.

The conceptual vehicle design can be turned into the T-14 Main Battle Tank, an infantry fighting vehicle, an artillery platform and more, a lot more.

Although “universal” concepts tend to work better on paper than they do when actually fielded, i.e. Universal Camo Pattern and the F-35 JSF, I am interested to see how this will work out for the Russians as well as the innovation and competition it spurs.

The Russian military will begin receiving these vehicles this year, and mass production will begin in 2016. ~Will
