Fundamentally, interstellar travel will be dependent of the use of either space based wormholes or time based wormholes. Anything else means traveling sublight and taking generations to accomplish.. This can only be practical for massive colony ships who also must depend most likely on wormholes to deliver plenty of propellent.
The bettrer alternative will be space based wormholes in which hte far end is likely moved to the target location at sublight.. Thus we might drive the end of a wormhole to an adjacent Star with a one g accelerator fueled from source. This is actually pretty quick but still years.
Projecting a free ended wormhole has the problem of ending up somewhere out there, but at a different time than hte source.. Obviously inconvenient.

Kelvin Long explores the Advanced Space Propulsion Landscape and goes from all of the concepts from different energy drives (chemical to antimatter), beam concepts, space drives and time drives.
Kelvin has worked on various fusion propulsion, laser sails and evaporating black hole drives.
Kelvin is also looking at hybridized concepts for things like combining nuclear fusion propulsion with beamed power and sails.
