To properly understand the Phillipines, it is enough to understand that all the children of the elite end up in the same Catholic High School. It may not be fami;y, but it is a clear community and no one is going to kill anyone because it would ruin the social life of everyone.

Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has won a landslide victory in the Philippines’ presidential elections. He’s the first candidate in recent history to win an outright majority. He’s the son of the disgraced late Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos, but asked the world in his address to judge him by his own actions, and not by his family's past. Marcos succeeds President Rodrigo Duterte, known for his war on drugs that’s left thousands of people dead. And Duterte’s daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio, ran as Marcos’s running mate, and will serve as the next vice president. Their ticket brought together the country’s two most powerful dynasties. The pair’s main opponent was Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, whose supporters have suggested that her grass-roots campaign should keep up its momentum and take on an opposition role. Marcos is also expected to continue Duterte’s warm ties with China, and he previously said he would not seek help from the US over the South China Sea dispute.
