This volcano is over 8000 feet which means it is pretty mature. It has been cooking up for months so yes we want to pay attention. Worse, it looks quite up to pulling a Mt St Helens type etuption on us. right now we are seeing scant proactive behavior by anyone.
For it to be dangerous, it has to blow out and millions of tons of rock need to descend with a quake whacking the adjacent sea bed. This is completely possible but not too likely yet.
Yet it is certainly time to take defensive measures. That does mean dust all Atlantic sea board Tsunami evacuation plans. going inland will matter and that means getting off the coast behind the first good rise of land. a worst case Tsunami can reach inland up to twenty miles if still strong enough. In all cases, tghe tsunami will have traveled thousands of miles and the real threat will be in estuaries. Think about Philadelphia which is at the head of a natural funnel.
Geology does inform regarding past events and allows us to evacuate the highest risk areas when the balloon goes up. We are talking about thirty hours or so and most could even walk to safety or get into a high rise.
