Palin to Jindal - Hit the Beach

Why is Sarah Palin the only politician making some sense on the BP oil spill disaster?  This is a national emergency that itself cannot be handled by BP at the coastal impact level.  They simply do not have boots on the ground.

They are able to send tankers out to pump the oil out of the water and not much else until the well is plugged.

Yet their current efforts will merely put much more oil into the sea.  Whoever is in charge is plausibly incompetent.

That still leaves the beach.  We have now wasted a month when every effort should have been directed toward sealing of as much wetland as possible with simple berms.  That is what local government can do.

Why does Sarah Palin even have to point this out?  Are our politicians so disconnected from the physical reality of the living environment that they can not see this?

Palin to Jindal: Ignore Feds,  Protect Your State
Tuesday, 01 Jun 2010

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is pushing Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to ignore federal rules and build berms to protect his state's coastline.

According to The Hill, Palin tweeted Monday evening: “Gov.Jindal:to avoid ravished coast, build the berms. Ask forgiveness later; Feds are slow to act, local leadership&action can do more for coast.”

The federal government has yet to sign off on Jindal's plan, which has angered the governor. Many Republicans have complained about the Obama administration’s response to the oil spill.

Jindal said Sunday that the Army Corps of Engineers had approved a limited amount of reconstruction of sandy barrier islands that Louisiana had first built during Hurricane Katrina. But Jindal complained that not enough construction had been approved or quickly enough, and that BP should be made to pay for the construction.
