Container Link across north America.
My question is can we do better? The mega ships sail from mega ports in Asia to north ametrica and have nothing to handle them. The same is true beteween europe and north america. these ships also have to go by way of suez.
We hve two plausible mega ports in Canada. Prince Rupert on the West coast and Sept Isles in quebec. As an aside, i include Anyox as part of the Prince rupert literole because it gives us a rail accessable coast nearby which is a huge fiord.
what does not exist is a rail link from mid Saskatchewan over the Churchill, although we do have bthe rail link from winnepeg. It is plausible that a rail line would be better built to follow the Saskatchewan river valley and Nelso river valley to Chuchill. Way more interesting it is plausible to build a rail corridor through hte Hudson bay lowlands all that way into deep northern quebec and directly to Sept isles.
and yes, we know it is challenging. It is also served fully by the direct rail links through Chicago. We do not need it now. However accessing the hudson Bay lowlands opens up a massive swath of sediment based soil to at least highly productive grassland development even without tackling the Sheild itself.
none of this is permafrost either which can be also handled if you are in no hurry. My point is that a rail link through the lowlands and crossing .part of Northern Quebec supports massive container trransfer btween Prince Rupert and Sept isles.
