I came across Richard Hoaglands book on Mars published over thirty years ago and updated to 2001.  As expected, the science in it is impecable and beyond impeachment.  Rather simply, we have two phenomenna.  The first is that the region about the infamous face on Mars about the FACE on Mars has a structural regularity able to produce a Moire image which is an expansion of that regularity.  This is impossible without inteligent design at work.  Get ovetr it.  It is also obviously old.

Then there is the studied egavious of NASA in evading the science and it ramifications.  Exactly what we have seen over and over again on multiple topics.  Back in 2007, I got annoyed and issued a press release to the world stating that the rate of ice removal in the Arctic should open the north West Passage around 2012. or three yrars on.  In a month, NASA jumped in the say the same thing.  Obviously they had been sitting on this.

The same pattern shows up with UFOs (understandable by the way) and Bigfoot ( 20,000 eye witnesses and body recoveries) .and Saturn's rings and who knows what else.  And let us not forget the Shroud of Turin with yet another debunker claiming nothing.(We can not create that image which uses intense radiation from a 3D body)

however, I do want to put MARS into proper perspective.  The alien aspect itself is a real phenom, but not ever necessary for monumaental builds.  their likely approach will be the same as ours.  Land wherever and go directly underground in order to provide a useful habitat for their own needs and ultimate protection.

I should mention, humanity will ultimately manufacture living habitat silos deep underground here on Earth to provide permanent protection from all forms of disasters.  It is possible that a predeceassor intelligent lifeform has done just that and we never see them.  (ie the reptilians).

What is way more probable is that humanity rising from 45.000 BP through 12900 BP and ending with the Pleistocene  Nonconformity, achieved modernity while mostly living on the Global continental shelf.  They then created a presence in our solar system at the least and that includes Mars.  We are now in the process of repeating this operation which will incvlude ample underground refugia everywhere in the soar system.

And very likely, the use of artificial gravity in these refugia.  An advanced human civilization can build the Pyramids and repeat the process on Mars as a message to the future.  We can do all of it today.  Gravity control makes it easier and we have had that since 1955.  

just saying.  understand my lab work showed us how and a literature search uncovered 1955.  It was just too easy folks.
