Existential Trade WAR

Trumps Trade War has the real potential of utterly diminishing the USA.  This makes it a grave strategic mistake.

Already under Canadian leadership, Canada and all its traditional allies have joned hands to integrate their own trade outside of the USA producing the beginnings of a corridor sanitare around the USA.  It costs money to do this, but not a lot.  geographically, goods landing in Prince rupert are only 3500 kilometers from the Lakehead and can be then put on ship to run through the Great lakes.  Or 4000 kilometers to Chicago to then run to montreal which is another 1500 km.

The problem here is that the USA now faces the real reality that all other countries on Earth will now join this trade dispensation because they almost have to.

now imagine these route been aggressively upgraded.  We do not have great lakes cargo ships, but just how long will that take if the USA tries to interfere at all.  cargo transfer is super efficent.

Now do recall that the disatance betwennn Prince rupert and Churchill is only 2300 km. or half the distance to Chicago.  Churchill is ice free for six months.  The rail linnes have to be improved of course, and a massive container port becomes necessary, but this is what Canada does best.

My point is that all this nicely matches any other cross country logistics plan you want to imagine.  Add in that most cargo containers have no problem sitting on a dock in Churchill in an effective deep freeze for an average of three months to be loaded when the spring fleet arrives.

The much talked about North West passsage is always difficult and the maximum season will be Three months at best.  Thus moving cargo containers from Prince Rupert to Churchill in under two days becomes very attractive.

My central take home is that all this is already marked out with infrastructure and only needs upgrading.  My key  point is that we can ship a container along any of these routes today completely bypassing the USA.  investment will easily make it the cheapest and fastest way between Asia and Europe.  This was actually inevitable but it all may now become fast tracked.
