Terraforming the Middle East.

An interesting item describing the middle East and its geographical foundations.  The actual framework is awful and fragile and fixing it is desirable to prevent massive population collapses.  All this is driving escape into Europe and anywhere else.

I do think also that Islam will be unable to survive modernity.  I worry about the rest of us as well, but mandatory child birth is coming for modernity and likely absorption for Islam anyway.

All that still leaves us with the geography.  We totally need to cause all dry lands to become wet throughout in order to induce a full on tropical hydraulic cycle.

Going this means pumping sea water up onto land by natural contour lifts that begin from high tide and work inland in stages.  Those lifts can easily by rather shallow to prevent any difficulty in water pressure.  All of this can be basic berms with perhaps a seal that could even be natural.

Imagine cutting a trench three feet deep and back filling it with transported clay to hold water.  Again a plastic sheet is easiest but natural just may be possible where clay exists.

Once the barriers are built, it is no trick to pump sea water up behind those berms until saturated.  sooner or later we have wetland and vegetative cover and slow leakage.  all this as it grows will trigger rainfall which will progressively remove the salt and allow natural forestland to emerge very like the Amazon.

My take home though, is that this is plausible and far easier than i first imagined.

The middle East can house a population of several billions once this reaches completion and geographical imperatives such as described here will disappear.
