Of course it was and this item makes that emphatic. all those other arguments mooted about are disingenius at best.
undersatand that slavery was deeply diminished in europe although not completely either as we know from russian serfdom. Way more important the scottish enlightenment produced the necessary crititique and propelled the end of slavery in the British empire during the late eighteenth century and plausibly motivated southern planters to join the American revolution as well It was really in the wind.
What actually made it possible was the emergence of fiat currency as well which ultimately monetised labor generally and slavery became sub economic. At least all this was happening at the same time and supporting each other.
So yes, the election of Lincoln made the end of slavery inevitable and took plausible compromise off the table. Uncle toms Cabin had also ended compromise with the electors.
Oddly, I am still a child of the scottish enlightenment and a throwback to that world and own the worldview that opposed slavery in the north. our greatest blessing is that such slavery continues to be diminished and no one attempts to publicly rationalize it at all worldwide.
Better yet, northern populations have also shifted into the old south deeply diminishing cultural imperatives there as well. It took 150 years so far, but we are still not totally there with remnant factions both white and black.
