China accuses US of 'abusing' international law at sea

Let us have some comic relief. the Law of the Sea is a natural artifact of the global British Navy succeeded by the global US Navy.  It is imposed and enforced by naval fiat.

At the same time, China has a 10,000 vessal fishing fleet whose adherance ot law is sketchy at best and better described as catch me if you can.

We need a global consensus that is enforced and enforcible.  Working up such a consensus and determining participation is clearly a higher good not yet been seriously pursued.

China accuses US of 'abusing' international law at sea

China accused the US of abusing international law with its military maneuvers in the western Pacific, one day after an American naval destroyer sailed through the politically sensitive Taiwan Strait. The USS John Finn sailed Wednesday through the 100-mile-wide waterway that separates China from Taiwan. China had agreed to resume military contacts with the US at a meeting last November between Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping in California. In part, the argument for doing so was to be able to manage an unintentional collision or other incident that could happen as both sides hold drills and patrol the waters in regional hotspots including the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea. The US defends its actions as in line with international laws that guarantee freedom of navigation.
