Occupying The boreal forest

this is a follow up on my item discussing an operational husbandry for the boreal forest.  I am now convinced that it is completerly practical in terms of the production of food stuffs.  We then need to address the problem of living there.  We really need to do much better in all that.

The truth is that we have no problem building competant housing in the from of three story buildings on top of a working ground floor and cellar.  we do it all the time in the form of apartment blocks.  what we have not engineered into all thjis is the whole commu-nity, ,let alone the working whole community.  Yet that is the original plan in european villages in the first instance.  the only thing truly different is much cheaper housing costs.

so imagine building a southward facing stack of housing with their own decks.  The back wall is a continous cinder block type construct able to absorb and hold heat.  this is all good by itself.  now add a large shed construct along the back side ro allow animal retention and fodder storage as well and still well separated from living quarters.  this should provide ample space without setting up a distant barn facility doing exactly the same thing.  Manure management is already mastered and automated and need not ever be nasty.

The nex trick is to establish a greenhouse glass wall in front of hte building allowing multiple levels of hydaponics and even tree growing and all supported by geothermal at least.

My point is that building it all for a community provides low costs and ample off season growing opportunities as well.  all this easily supoorts a full on community garden facility as well.  the home stops been a refuge for avoiding the foul weather outside.

I like the idea of simply building a three story vertical glass wall some twenty feet in front of  our longish building without getting too carried away with sealing it all up.  the actual growing platforms are self supporting and you actually want air space on both sides.  the winter roof can be withdrawn over summer to allow maximum airflow.  end closure is not difficult either.  what is impossible is maintaining an enclosed climate.  ample ducting and an open roof provides an excellent environment at least much superior to what is actually outside this.  our mistake has been to actually seal it in and do temperature control.
