Fungal Moisture

Made a curious observation today while walking through a local woodland. It looked something like this image, but that is not important.

What was important is that it has been dry for weeks, yet the fungus was surrounded by wet bark to several inches and the fungus itself was clearly dripping.  It was all part of a dry cutoff stump not yet rotting.

This tells me that the water was pulled in through the natural root like fibers that reach out into the soils.

What this really implies is that fungal fibers move not just nutrients around, but also water and this explains the uniform moisture content of forest floors.

Water does not just flow downhill but is drawn far and wide throughout the soil mat through the operation of fungal fibers.  I am not sure this is understood at all and i certainly never understood it until it was shown to me this way.

This is a powerful arguement for covering the whole of TERRA with a fully living soil actively drawing water from every topographical low point and it is something husbandry can sustain.  We have been draining fields for industrial convenience and this really has to be rethought.  Large field fence rows can be easily made to sustain low wet zones alrewady been sustained plausibly by atmospheric water collection.
