Pre Clovis 36,000 BP

Once I understood that paddling down the west coast was rather easy in a kayak and that we had sites on the siberian  coast with massive upper body strength over 20,000 years old, the whole Clovis MEME became suspect.

More seriously though,  the Clovis time marker coincides with the mass extinction event I have called the Pleistocene Nonconformity.  At that time active locations were whacked and also likely buried as well.  That is why we even have sites to work with.

Now we have a clear site in New Mexico that is aging out around 36,000 years.  The evidence is also ample.  It was a mammoth butchering site.  Plenty of evidence is what we truly needed here.

We also need to revisit clovis sites and dig much deeper as well.  That will also now happen.

For a very long time it was believed that the oldest evidence of humans in North America came from the Clovis Culture who resided on the continent approximately 13,000 years ago. And for quite a while the idea of humans occupying North America before 13,000 years ago was looked at as preposterous. But a new paper in Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution from Scientists at the University of Texas in Austin Texas describe the discovery of Mammoth bones with cut marks found in New Mexico’s Rio Puerco Canyon, and they consider this discovery as the most convincing evidence for the arrival of Humans in North America. In the past there has been collagen extracted from some of these mammoth bones, and these have been dating to between 36,250 and 38,900 years ago. This age range is significantly older than the current believed oldest evidence of humans in north America at 23,000 years ago. More than 10,000 years older, which is quite the staggering difference.
