Without been directly told, my own take on the available selection of such reports, was to strongly suspect direct human involvement. That arose because of the apparent use of human identifiable running lights and apparent nozzle engines as well. Large size was the easy part because smaller sizes are exponentially more difficult to build.
Now we have this item confirming that is the general consensus as well. Inasmuch as initial experimentation took place regarding gravitics in the mid fifties, it is just possible that such a craft could have been put together by 1965 during the high point of the Space Race.
A viable craft need only have effective gravity control at that time to produce what has been observed. Staying within that basic hull thereafter also makes great sense as it is large and useful as a bombardment craft and internal upgrades easy to implement. This is our nascent space fleet....
