Egyptian Dawn With Robert Temple

This recently published book by Robert Temple is an extremely important shift in our understanding of ancient Bronze Age History and goes far beyond the point I had already reached.

As I have already discussed and posted on extensively, an Atlantic sea based society known as Atlantean expired from a massive seismic event in 1159 BC.  The cause was the violent explosion of Hekla in Iceland. The resultant tsunami wiped out all coastal Atlantean trade ports and ended the transatlantic copper and metal trade.  We understood that this society was at least a few centuries old and plausibly arose from the two thousand year rise of the European Bronze Age.

This book completely increases the actual scope of this society both geographically and deep in time.

Conclusion 1    The entire megalithic in Europe and elsewhere reflects a common sea based trading culture that reached throughout the Mediterranean and the Atlantic including accessible parts of South America.

Conclusion 2    The culture was European as in blond and white and it established itself as a ruling class at the least wherever it established itself.  Their conduct of the metal trade underwrote the entire culture for about two thousand years.

Conclusion 3    They established themselves in North Africa and Spain in substantial numbers and this culminated with a takeover of the Nile Delta which represented the most productive soils for the era.  That population base then built out the Pyramids during their period of cultural dominance.

Conclusion 4    Besides sea going navigation they mastered a great deal of astronomical lore leading to the construction of the many henges we are familiar with.  This building impulse culminated with the building of the Great Pyramid.

Conclusion 5    This culture hugely informed the Egyptian successor culture and from there the Greek culture.

For me the surprise is to understand the huge role played by Atlanteans in both Egypt and the rich farm lands of Libya.  Subconsciously, I had discounted that influence and still discounted the extent of the damage inflicted on Atlantean culture by the Tsunami.

Although seabourne, and palace based with no true urban center, let alone central governance, and effectively pre literate, it traded itself into existence and took advantage of its ability to concentrate forces to dominate the entire Atlantic and Mediterranean littoral.

If you wish to understand precisely how it all worked, read the Iliad which was set in the generation before the tsunami in a far reach of the culture (the Baltic). 

It is worth mentioning that these henges are certainly shrines to Poseidon in particular and were used to establish annual time points.
