Will Life Exist in the Solar System After the Death of the Sun?

Of course it will once we master gravity management.  It is nothing to colonize any large piece of rock anywhere then.  Or even establish colonies around nearby stars.  Recall that removing DARK MATTER causes an object to approach at around 1/2 c.  so we can place millions inside phobos and head out to any other star.

By the by, we have already mastered gravity and it went DARK in 1955.

Sadly, this will only change when someone else wakes up.

Will Life Exist in the Solar System After the Death of the Sun?

The Sun is ~4.6 billion years old. Within ~5 billion years, the hydrogen fuel in its core will run out, and the Sun will begin expanding into a red giant star. In ~6.5 billion years, the helium in its core will ignite and the Sun will settle into a helium-burning phase lasting ~100 million years. In ~7.5 billion years, the helium will be exhausted, and the Sun will enter the asymptotic giant branch, and its envelope will swell to near Earth’s orbit.

Most of the outer layers of the Sun will be shed off over a few hundred thousand years, so that in ~8 billion years the ejected gas will create an extended planetary nebula. The exposed hot core, a dense carbon-oxygen white dwarf, will carry about 0.55 solar masses. This massive remnant of the Sun will settle to a size comparable to that of the Earth.

As a result of this predictable evolution, the solar system will become a ghostly remnant of its former self once the age of the Universe will exceed 21.8 billion years. Its transformation will follow the following stages.

During the red giant phase, the Sun will engulf and completely incinerate the inner solar system. Mercury and Venus will be swallowed first. Earth will likely be engulfed as well, in which case the Moon will crash on Earth’s surface as a result of drag on the puffed-up stellar envelope. The mass loss from the Sun will initially weaken the Sun’s gravity and push Earth out to about 1.7 times the current Earth-Sun separation, namely, 1.7 AU. But the bloated Sun will also drag Earth’s orbit inward, and the most detailed models find that Earth will be pulled in and be vaporized. Even if Earth narrowly escapes being swallowed, its oceans will boil, its atmosphere will be ripped away, and its surface will melt into a sea of lava, leaving behind a scorched, lifeless rock.

The white dwarf remnant will start with a surface temperature over 100,000 degrees Kelvin and gradually cool over time. With less gravitational pull from the dead Sun, the surviving planets: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, will drift outward. Their orbits will roughly double in size, shifting Jupiter to ~10 AU and Neptune to ~60 AU. The white dwarf’s luminosity will drop below a thousandth of the current solar luminosity within a few hundred million years. The subsurface oceans of Europa and Enceladus will eventually freeze solid. The Kuiper belt and Oort cloud will expand, and the loosely bound objects in the outer Oort cloud will be lost as interstellar objects. The changing gravity will also disrupt the asteroid belt, sending many space rocks towards interstellar space.

The white dwarf will contain no nuclear fuel and will only glow from leftover trapped heat. As it will cool down over trillions of years, the outer planets and their remaining moons will plunge into a deep freeze, with temperatures dropping down to tens of degrees above absolute zero.

Because of the chaotic shifts in gravity during the Sun’s death throes, millions of comets and asteroids from the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud will fall inward toward the white dwarf. The immense gravitational tidal forces close to the dead Sun will shred these rocky objects into dust, forming a debris ring around the white dwarf that it will slowly consume over time.

Such debris disks are commonly found around old white dwarfs which represent the corpses of billions of ancient suns that died by now in the Milky-Way galaxy. The Sun was born and evolved in the last third of cosmic history. Most stars formed billions of years before the birth of the Sun.

The future solar system will lose its current inner planets, while the outer planets will survive on wider orbits around a cooling ember, and over trillions of years even that arrangement will slowly break apart.

Spectra of about a quarter to a half of white dwarfs show heavy elements in their atmospheres that gravity should have removed in days to centuries, so they must be continually fed by rocky debris. The surviving planets’ gravity, once the stabilizing mass of the star is reduced, scatters asteroids and comets onto orbits that pass close to the white dwarf, where they are shredded by tides into debris disks and accreted. Several white dwarfs show transiting fragments doing exactly this. The Solar System’s white dwarf will likely be polluted by rocky material the same way for billions of years, and its spectrum will carry the chemical signature of the asteroid belt.

With the Sun’s mass halved, the planets’ mutual perturbations are relatively stronger. Long-term simulations find the giant planets usually remain stable for tens of billions of years, but on timescales of trillions of years, passing stars and chaotic interactions will eventually eject planets one by one or send them into the star. Over such long timescales the white dwarf itself will cool dramatically and become a black dwarf, radiating almost nothing after 10 trillion years.

(I

Interestingly, a white dwarf has a habitable zone, close in at a few hundredths of an AU, and it persists for billions of years as the star cools. No planet of the current Solar system will be there, since anything that close will be engulfed. But some white dwarfs have been found with planets that migrated inward or formed after the giant phase. If life could get a foothold on such a world, it would have a far longer stable habitable era than the Sun currently offers.

This meme has been around for a long time, just like the Rife device.  Clearly useful, clearly suggestive, but demanding technical precision which naturally delays application.

Xrays were no different.  We slowly got better.

Successfully disturbing flws allowing natural healing is sound.

What if sound could reach places medicine struggles to access? Researchers are now using focused ultrasound to target harmful amyloid plaques deep inside the brain.

The technique works by briefly opening the blood-brain barrier, allowing the body’s own immune system — and certain treatments — to better clear toxic protein buildup linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

In animal studies, this approach significantly reduced plaque levels and led to noticeable memory improvements. Early human trials suggest the method is safe and may enhance the effectiveness of existing therapies.

Unlike drugs that circulate through the entire body, focused ultrasound is non-invasive and precisely targeted. That precision could reduce side effects while increasing impact.

While still in early stages, scientists see this as a promising shift in how neurodegenerative diseases might be treated — not just slowed, but potentially reversed in part.

Could non-invasive focused ultrasound replace high-risk brain surgeries in the next decade?

Depopulation Without Firing a Shot: Two Octopuses, One Agenda

what we have is two identifiable responses to the original acceptable threat of natural over population.  Neither is truly coherant and neither is now acceptable.

THe Globe is facing a growing existential threat form of natural depopulation driven by birth control and nothing else.

fixing this will require a nuanced response and so far we have a slew of half measures kicking the problem down the road.

I start by mandating all women initiate pregnancy between 18 and 25 for four babies.  However for this to work at all, we need the formal RULE OF TWELVE and the engagement of the natural sisterhood within each natural community of around 150 folk.  And this is just the beginning of the social protocol we need.

Depopulation Without Firing a Shot: Two Octopuses, One Agenda

November 3, 2026

https://activistpost.com/depopulation-without-firing-a-shot-two-octopuses-one-agenda/

Everyone keeps asking “who are THEY?” Who’s behind the wars, the plandemic, the open borders? Most people expect one shadowy cabal. But what if there are two octopuses, each with eight arms, usually working separately… but occasionally shaking hands over mega-operations like 9/11 and COVID?

That’s what I sat down with Charlie Robinson to figure out. Charlie, who I worked with on The Controlled Demolition of the American Empire, just dropped his new book, The Octopus of Population Control. What he found isn’t one group. It’s two. Both depopulating the planet. For wildly different reasons.

The first group Charlie calls the WASPs (the White Anglo-Saxon Protestants). The Milner Roundtable, Cecil Rhodes, the Rockefellers, the Fabians, the CIA, the World Economic Forum. These are the builders. They colonized the world, and they view humanity as a herd on the animal farm that needs managing. Their depopulation is diabolical, but it’s practical. You can’t set up your textile industry in Bangladesh and watch 50 million people become 300 million. So, Henry Kissinger wrote a classified memo on December 10, 1974… the National Security Study Memorandum 200 aka the Kissinger Genocide Report that defined America’s policy toward the Third World (de)population. It’s worth a read if you’re into dystopian horror.

The second group is the Sabbateans… the destroyers. Where the WASPs manage the herd, this faction is on a religious trip, guided by forces they believe demand the world be destroyed so it can be rebuilt. This is where Coudenhove-Kalergi (the guy who ran the precursor to the EU for 49 years, the Satan Klaus Schwab before Satan Klaus Schwab) wrote down his plan for Europe. (More in today’s video)

These two octopuses don’t always cooperate… but when both factions see a vested interest, they conduct massive operations together.

Except… You don’t actually need operations or camps, wars, or needles to depopulate a civilization. You just need Big Tech to pay women to freeze their eggs, a culture that says kids are a hassle, and a “transhumanist” rebrand of eugenics invented by Julian Huxley, the man who ran the British Eugenics Society.

Let’s dig a little deeper. Julian Huxley was the brother of author Aldous Huxley who wrote A Brand New World in 1931… A dystopian novel set in a futuristic World State, whose citizens are environmentally engineered into an intelligence-based social hierarchy, the novel anticipates huge scientific advancements in reproductive technology, sleep-learning, psychological manipulation, and classical conditioning that are combined to make a seemingly utopian society.

Coincidence?

The World Enslavement Forum sells transhumanism as the Fourth Industrial Revolution… robot arms, brain chips, X-ray vision.

What they don’t sell you is the legal gray zone where a man with enough mRNA technology in his body is argued to be legally no longer human, and all his human rights evaporate.

The Octopus of Population Control went number one on Amazon on the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Fitting.

The frog is in the pot, but the exits are still open. Get the book. Give it 5 stars.

Charlie has identified the two main groups, how they sometimes work together and how they want to destroy and depopulate humanity.

At the end, I asked Charlie, “What do we do with this information?”

Watch to see the answer but my answer was… know what’s going on and do the work to avoid falling into their plan.

Will Mathematics in the Age of Superintelligence Follow the History of Astronomy in the Age of Instrumentation?

Well yes folks.  Understand that my work has cracked open the second order barrier allowing all mathematical method to advance into all problems dealing with more than two axis.

Just what do you think third and forth order pythagoreans mean?

for a human being, the calculation load becomes unbearable because it climbs exponentially.  I have already tasted it..

Yet adopting my method may also allow most mathematical inquiry to be fprmally closed.  Perhaps not sll ,but that is a question to be answered.

Will Mathematics in the Age of Superintelligence Follow the History of Astronomy in the Age of Instrumentation?

Ancient astronomy was practiced for thousands of years. For example, the Mayans used their eyes to track changes in the positions and relative brightness of the Sun, Moon, planets and stars for over 2,000 years. Mayan astronomers acquired the highest status in their society as priests who advised their rulers on major decisions about state events, marriages, and wars.

The human eye achieves an angular resolution of about an arcminute (1/60th of a degree) in the visible wavelength band between 380 and 720 nanometers. Given the limited collecting area of the pupil, 3–50 square millimeters, humans were able to see only relatively bright sources of visible light, as needed for their survival. Mayan astronomers with sharper eyes had the privilege of identifying fainter sources in the sky. Given the interest of Mayan rulers in their findings, they must have been celebrated and rewarded based on the quality of their eyesight.

Starting with Galileo Galilei in 1610, astronomers employed telescopes to observe the sky. 380 years after Galileo’s first observations, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) was launched beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, to alleviate the compromising atmospheric glow and blur. HST features a primary mirror with a collecting area of 4.52 square meters, about 100,000 times bigger than a fully dilated human eye. Its angular resolution is 1,200 times sharper and it can detect sources that are 10 billion times fainter than what an unaided human eye can see.

Whereas early telescopes probed electromagnetic waves at the frequency range visible to the human eyes, their advanced successors probed other frequencies including the radio, infrared, ultraviolet, X-ray and gamma-ray bands. In addition, the detection of cosmic-rays, neutrinos, and gravitational waves offered new insights on otherwise invisible processes throughout the cosmos.

Are we witnessing an accelerated repeat of this history in the context of mathematics in the age of artificial superintelligence?

Traditionally, mathematicians used their biological brains to prove or disprove research conjectures. Over the past few months, advanced reasoning models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and DeepMind have generated thousands of pages of manuscripts, found counterexamples to long-standing math problems, and computerized historic human proofs. These include discovering a partial proof of the Quasi-Riemann Hypothesis and a major special case of the Hodge Conjecture, disproving long-standing conjectures such as the Köthe Conjecture, the Ibragimov–Iosifescu Conjecture, the Discrete Geometry Conjecture, the Crouzeix Conjecture, and the Erdős Unit Distance Conjecture. Superintelligence (SI) agents successfully resolved several open Erdős problems and verified dozens of integer sequence conjectures. SI labs now pair Large Language Models with interactive proof assistants like Lean. The SI acts as the creative engine, guessing lines of a proof, and Lean acts as a fact-checker, telling the SI if a step violates mathematical rules. This feedback loop allows SI agents to autonomously debug their logic until a bulletproof code certificate is produced

The use of instruments with super-human abilities to explore mathematical truths resembles the use of astronomical instruments to explore invisible truths in the sky. In both cases, the limited biological abilities of humans are assisted by hardware to extend the human reach.

There was no way for Galileo Galilei to imagine the discovery of the galaxy GN-z11 by HST. This galaxy existed during the cosmic dawn, 400 million years after the Big Bang, when the infant Universe was only 3% of its current age. Galileo did not know that stars emit light from so far away, nor that the Sun is late to the cosmic party since it formed in the last third of cosmic history. His concept of the world included the solar system and some bright stars near it. That was it.

Similarly, traditional mathematicians used the limited neural network at their disposal in their biological brain to explore mathematical truths in the domain accessible to their brain. As of now, SI helps us resolve open questions that were defined by these same human brains. But in the future, SI could reveal new mathematical truths that the human brain did not even imagine.

Whereas the revolution in our understanding of the cosmos was brought about by centuries of improving astronomical instrumentation, the SI revolution in mathematics takes place rapidly over a period of only months. It took the Vatican 350 years after the death of Galileo to admit that he was right. But it takes Lean at most hours to check math derivations by SI.

What are humans to do under these circumstances?

Mathematicians can learn from the historical precedence of astronomy in how to adapt to emerging technologies. The proper approach is to take advantage of technological assists and change the skills necessary for making breakthroughs. The expertise needed to take advantage of HST data is very different from that employed by Mayan astronomers.

The Physics Nobel Prize was awarded in recent decades to astronomers who did not necessarily have exceptional eyesight like the Mayan astronomers, but instead had the vision to employ the latest technologies to discover the faint radio glow from the Big Bang (here and here), the existence of black holes and neutron stars in the infrared (here), X-rays (here), gravitational waves (here) and neutrinos (here and in 2026 here).

Even the EU is waking up to the need for oil refineries

fossil fuel is the low cost base load that steps up in an emergency.  It is neither that cheap nor easily replaced in our economy.  In case you have not noticed, the globe has been diversifying away from fossil fuel over the past fifty years.

We have working alternatives which is nice but they still carry a fraction of the energy load.  The biggest shift is from Ic transport to ev transport.  It is only happening now in practice and just now successfully.

It is very much a process even when the global consensus is onside and we are no longer going broke doing it.

The EU has a problem today they are not ready for.  Scary.  Every house in europe needs a cast iron stove to act as backup.  That used to be it folks.

Even the EU is waking up to the need for oil refineries

Europe is “Rethinking” its oil refinery phase-down

Having spent a decade trying to put oil refineries out of business with the Paris agreement and carbon penalties, suddenly the EU is ‘talking’ to oil refineries about keeping them in action.

The oil chickens have come home in Europe. Winter is on the way, their gas storage is at a record low for this time of year, and gas prices have ominously and rapidly climbed above 100€ for the first time since the Ukrainian War crisis in 2022. This latest energy shock has added €100 billion to Europe’s import bill according to OilPrice.

Dec 26 TTF Gas futures

German storage is only at 61% full — compared to the five year norm of being 89% full at this time of year.

Right about now, the worst possible thing would be a cold winter. Or worse, say, a situation where the Arctic Polar Vortex looks like breaking up next week, which would be the earliest it has ever collapsed since records began in 1959. Meteorologists are suddenly very animated because literally 100% of the runs on the ECMWF model are saying the Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) will happen by Nov 16th, and it may come as early as the 4th or 5th. (You know, tomorrow!) Many years the Polar Vortex doesn’t weaken until February or March. To put this in perspective, the earliest recorded SSW event was Nov 28th 1968.* So it really would be rewriting the record books.

UPDATE: On the left is a normal polar vortex at this time of year. On the right side is the windpattern today over the Arctic at 30km up. It appears to be breaking up. This is over the North Pole and three times higher than planes fly, but it will affect weather patterns in the lower atmosphere in a few weeks.

If this breaks down warm air can suddenly rise to this height creating a Sudden Stratospheric Warming. (SSW). Temperatures can rise by up to 50°C in this normally very cold thin air. The colors here describe wind speeds (not temperatures). There is no sign yet of the characteristic warming we might see.

Most years the polar vortex forms 30km above the Arctic at 10hPA. This year the winds are slower and the pattern is splitting. Images from Nullschool

Pierre Gosselin explains at NoTricksZone, that a strong spinning Polar Vortex keeps the cold arctic air contained over the arctic. When this pattern breaks down, it affects the layers below. Two to six weeks later the warm winds off the Atlantic may get blocked which means the frigid air from the North Pole and Siberia can flow into central Europe. This has been called The Beast from The East.

Maybe God wants to make sure they learn the lesson this time?

Of course, the polar vortex might not misbehave, the weather might not get horribly cold, and the war(s) might not get worse. But the EU are in a position where a catastrophe is not unthinkable, and they are counting on luck.

They are realizing that closing a quarter of all their refineries in the last 20 years was stupid.

As an Australian, all I can say is “hold my beer” — just one quarter gone? We are the most isolated, sparsely populated country, flying and driving thousands of miles. We’re more dependent on diesel than anywhere on earth, and yet we’ve closed three quarters of all our refineries.

Added to that, we have the smallest stockpile of diesel in the world — currently listed as 34 days.

“How long do you want your civilization to last”? About five weeks.

Commission launches High-Level Dialogue with the European refining sector

The European Commission

The European Commission launched today the first High-Level Dialogue with the European refining industry to discuss how to strengthen Europe’s energy security, defence readiness and industrial competitiveness in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

EU refineries supply about 70% of jet fuel and 85% of diesel consumed in Europe.

In true bureaucratic tongue twisters they will have cake, eat cake, sell cake and limit cake simultaneously

This complete about-face is in line with their climate ambitions, of course.

Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing, said:

Crises are also opportunities. We need to create an environment that supports sufficient domestic fuel production in Europe as well as long-term viability of European refining as the EU decarbonises. This is why, together with the sector, we will work on a joint roadmap on its transformation and contribution to the EU’s security objectives and in line with our climate ambition”

Not to put to fine a point on it, the Defence Commissioner has suddenly realized they can’t fight without fuel:

Andrius Kubilius, Commissioner for Defence and Space, said:

“I am always quoting a very famous American historical figure, General John Pershing, who was leading American troops on the European continent during the First World War, who said very simple truth: the battles are won by infantries, the wars are won by logistics. And fuel supplies are the biggest part of what we can call logistics. Proper fuel supplies to our militaries are crucial in our defence readiness. So definitely it is an obvious truth that defence without fuel is impossible.”

The position they are in is exactly what they created. The EU Emissions Trading scheme was designed to put oil refineries out of business:

Europe Is Now Seriously Rethinking Its Oil Refinery Phase Down

By Alex Kimani, OilPrice

…Europe is now being forced to reckon with its decision to ditch some of its fossil fuel assets as yet another global energy crisis unfolds just years after the 2022 energy crisis. Over the past 20 years, Europe has aggressively phased down its oil refineries, shutting down about a quarter of its plants and reducing processing capacity by roughly 10%, with EU policymakers anticipating that the green transition would steadily shrink domestic demand for gasoline and diesel. A lot of the attrition was driven by onerous environmental rules and harsh penalties for non-compliance. To wit, under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), refineries face a declining cap on carbon emissions and receive fewer free pollution allowances over time, sharply increasing the cost of operating their facilities, while stricter environmental rules and pollution limits under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) mandate expensive retrofits and continuous compliance costs for heavy polluters, negatively impacting oil refining margins.

Ominously, last week only 86% of model runs predicted the polar vortex will undergo a Sudden Stratospheric Warming event and earlier than it has since 1959.

The Polar Vortex Is Breaking Early, and Europe’s Gas Storage Is Low

Jakob, Steinschaden, Trending Topics

Of all years, the polar vortex could collapse earlier than ever recorded in the one when Europe’s gas storage is unusually empty. Weather models are forecasting a sudden warming of the stratosphere over the Arctic in the first week of November that could split the cold engine above the North Pole. According to Gizmodo, 86 percent of the ensemble runs from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) predict that the winds in the stratosphere will reverse by the second week of November. That has never happened this early in the season since records began in 1959.

This week, 50 out of 50 model runs are predicting it.

Taking The Houthis At Their Word: The Bill Saudi Arabia Doesn't Want To Read

Reading a target list is not hitting a target at all.  And the tech misses often even when launched.

The saudis need to station media on all those targets  to show the world what Iran is doing to peaceful Saudi arabia.  Take hits, if they arrive, for the prass.

Remember Baghdad Bob.  Embeded press mades his claims silly.  There is a real fight down there bogged down with a low expectation military machine.

Taking The Houthis At Their Word: The Bill Saudi Arabia Doesn't Want To Read

Monday, Nov 02, 2026 - 08:25 PM

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/taking-houthis-their-word-bill-saudi-arabia-doesnt-want-read

Riyadh has a simple method for dealing with Houthi claims. It announces that its air defenses intercepted something, says nothing about everything else, and hopes the world changes the subject. Aramco, a company that publishes its quarterly earnings to the decimal point, suddenly develops a vow of silence whenever someone asks whether its refineries are on fire.

So let me try something different. For the length of this column, I am going to ignore the Saudi government and Aramco entirely and take Ansar Allah's military spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, at his word. Not because Saree is a paragon of precision. Military spokesmen everywhere, including in Washington, inflate their results. I do it because the exercise tells you what the Houthis believe they are doing, what they are aiming at, and what Saudi Arabia stands to lose if even half of it is true. Since October 10, the answer is: quite a lot.

The target list

Between October 10 and October 29, Saree issued at least eight statements claiming strikes inside the kingdom. Read them together and a pattern jumps out. This is not random harassment. It is a campaign against three things: the capital, the oil export chain and the air bases that run the war in Yemen.

Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport appears in seven of those statements, on October 10, 11, 12, 19, 24, 26 and 29. Saree has declared it a "military target" and told airlines and travelers to stay away. The Houthis have also claimed King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Abha airport three times and Najran airport three times.

On the energy side, the Houthis claim to have hit Aramco's Yanbu complex three times, the East-West pipeline and its pumping stations twice, the Ras Tanura refinery twice, the Rabigh refinery twice, and the Abqaiq processing plant, the Shaybah oil field and Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran once each. Ghawar, the largest oil field on earth, was reportedly on the October 10 list as well.

And on the military side, they claim the King Khalid Air Base at Khamis Mushait four times, a military headquarters in Najran, transport aircraft at Najran airport, a "Saudi navy task force camp," radar sites at Jabal al-Hisn, Jabal al-Rahmah and Bir Askar, and, twice, the Saudi Ministry of Defense in Riyadh. Read that last one again. The Houthis claim they have twice hit the building from which the Saudi war in Yemen is run.

Every link in the chain

Here is the part that should keep Saudi oil ministers up at night. Look at the energy targets on a map, and you realize the Houthis are not just hitting oil facilities. They are claiming to hit every single link in the one supply chain Saudi Arabia has left.

With the Strait of Hormuz closed to normal traffic, the kingdom's exports depend on a single route. Crude comes out of Ghawar and Shaybah in the east. It is processed at Abqaiq, which has a capacity of 7 million barrels a day and is the heart of the entire Saudi oil system. It is then pushed 1,200 kilometers west across the desert through the East-West pipeline, which has been running at its full 7 million barrels a day since March, by a string of pumping stations. And it is loaded onto tankers at Yanbu on the Red Sea, which was shipping about 5 million barrels a day of crude.

The Houthis claim to have hit the fields at the beginning, Abqaiq at the processing stage, the pumping stations in the middle and Yanbu at the exit. That is not a target list. That is a flowchart. My friend Karl Miller, who watches this closely from the region, told me weeks ago that four of the 11 pumping stations on that pipeline had been severely damaged and were not functioning. The Houthis' latest claims suggest they intend to finish the job.

Running the numbers

So what is this worth? Brent was trading near $115 a barrel on October 28, the day after the Houthis claimed Ras Tanura. Let's do some arithmetic.

If the claimed strikes on the pipeline, the pumping stations and Yanbu have cut the Red Sea exports in half, Saudi Arabia is losing roughly 2.5 million barrels a day. At $115, that is about $290 million a day, or around $8.6 billion a month. If Yanbu were shut entirely, the loss would be about $575 million a day, more than $17 billion a month. Those are not rounding errors, even for a country that has been known to buy a football club on a whim.

Then add the refineries. Ras Tanura has a capacity of about 550,000 barrels a day. Rabigh has roughly 400,000. Yanbu is home to three more. Take the claims at face value and the Houthis have struck plants representing well over a million barrels a day of refining. That is not merely lost revenue for Aramco. It is diesel, jet fuel and gasoline that the world, already short of all three, can't buy from Saudi Arabia, and that Saudi Arabia may have to import for itself. A petrostate buying refined products from abroad is the energy equivalent of a bakery buying bread at the supermarket.

And then there is Abqaiq. We have seen this movie before. In September 2019, a drone and missile strike on Abqaiq and Khurais knocked out 5.7 million barrels a day, half of Saudi production, overnight. If the Houthis' October 29 claim against Abqaiq is even partly true, they don't need to hit anything else. Abqaiq is the chokepoint inside the chokepoint.

The real damage is political

The oil losses are serious, but they are temporary. Pipes get welded. Refineries restart. The political damage to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is far harder to repair.

MBS has staked everything on Vision 2030, the promise that Saudi Arabia will become a global hub for business, tourism, sport and investment. Every one of those businesses depends on one thing: the perception that the kingdom is safe. The Houthis are attacking that perception directly, which is why the capital's airport is the most frequent name on their list. You can't sell Riyadh as the Dubai of tomorrow when the Houthis are telling the world's airlines not to land there. King Khalid Airport was closed from October 11 to October 18. The day after it reopened, Saudi Arabia postponed the Future Investment Initiative, the "Davos in the Desert" that BlackRock's Larry Fink and JPMorgan's Jamie Dimon were supposed to attend, until 2027. Nothing says "open for business" like canceling your flagship business conference.

Then consider the military claims. Saudi Arabia signed a $142 billion arms package with Washington in May 2025, the largest in history, on top of decades of Patriots, F-15s and everything else money can buy. If Saree is to be believed, the Houthis, a movement that controls the poorest country in the Arab world, have repeatedly struck the main air base in the south, the radar network that is supposed to see them coming and the Defense Ministry in the capital. That is a humiliation that no amount of PR can hide. It raises an awkward question in every Gulf capital: what exactly did all that money buy?

It also explains the diplomatic scramble I wrote about last week. Riyadh's new allies in Pakistan and Turkey have made it clear they will not cross into Yemen. Saudi Arabia's defense minister flew to Tehran. There are reports, unconfirmed by Riyadh, of a $1 billion down payment to buy calm. Countries that are winning wars do not send their defense ministers to the other side's patron with a checkbook.

The fine print

In fairness, I said I would take Saree at his word, and his word has a curious feature. On October 31, after the Saudi-led coalition said it had shot down a Houthi drone over Medina, Saree indignantly denied it. The Houthis, he said, had "not carried out any operation directed towards the Saudi interior." So Ansar Allah will happily claim the Defense Ministry, Abqaiq and the Riyadh airport, but it draws the line at the holy cities. That isn't modesty. It's message discipline. The Houthis want the Muslim world to see a war against the House of Saud, not against Islam's holiest sites.

Which brings me to the bottom line. Even if Saree is exaggerating by half, and he may be, Saudi Arabia is now fighting a war it cannot win on the ground, cannot stop from the air and cannot afford to keep losing at the pump. The Houthis don't have to destroy Aramco. They only have to convince the world's airlines, insurers and investors that the kingdom is a war zone. On present evidence, they are doing a pretty good job of it.

Somewhere in Riyadh, an Aramco spokesman is drafting another statement that says nothing. In Sanaa, Yahya Saree is drafting another target list. I know which one I'd read first.
