THe problem is not going away and this informs that the damage is great. The only thing minimized so far has been the money spent on cleaning it up. It is much worse than first reported and using those villages is not a wise idea.
A mere mouse will track material into the housing on an ongoing basis. and just who wants to live in a house near a radioactive reservoir?
The forests need to be harvested and then burned out to allow the soil to be turned several times. If the ash can be collected, all the better. Then biochar can used to lock down the radioactives. Better still carbonize all plant life.... .
