The socialist dream has infected intellectuals for decades and no end of proof makes them want to give it up. Pope Francis is merely another victim of what is a simplistic idea that is wrong. As this makes clear, our whole christian culture produced modernity and the dignity of labor which liberated economics from the rule of the Big Man.
The hopeless flaw of socialism is that it attempts to preserve the role of the King or Big Man while partially financing the bottom third of the economy in a restrictive manner. The liberating effect of micro lending showed us the actual folly of this approach.
Thus my own insight that we merely end poverty by providing light duty shifts of four hours per day aimed at advancing community assets and apply the rule of twelve to support community micro lending. This establishes a firm bid for all human labor that is available today with no questions asked. Linking pricing directly to supplied services prevents gaming the weak. The four hour shift is enough to provide basic support while freeing the individual to take on further work on the day.
For, every man has by nature the right to possess property as his own. This is one of the chief points of distinction between man and the animal creation ... [Because] man alone among the animal creation is endowed with reason – it must be within his right to possess things not merely for temporary and momentary use, as other living things do, but to have and to hold them in stable and permanent possession.
The right to possess private property is derived from nature, not from man; and the State has the right to control its use in the interests of the public good alone, but by no means to absorb it altogether. The State would therefore be unjust and cruel if under the name of taxation it were to deprive the private owner of more than is fair.
