This is actually going to happen sooner than later and should be welcomed. Agriculture needs massive amount of repetitive low impact labor also known as drudgery to a human mind better suited to providing guidance and repairing glitches.
Productivity demands a massive input of physical attention better supplied by robots. We have taken large equipment as far as it can go and not too satisfactorily either. It really demands a thousand acre field that is nice and flat. Yet productivity falls short even when comparing industrial apples to organic apples and is obviously a fraction of potential.
True potential can be several thousands of dollars per acre while industrial productivity is under a thousand dollars typically and only possible when land is super cheap. The only reason it works is mechanization and one man in charge.
