It has taken two years, but we now have an experienced Ukrainian Army facing a Russian Army.
Actual fighting has petered out and the stage is set of a political solution. That will not include a significant Russian role in Ukrainian affairs.
Russia will get what it originally owned anyway and have the Crimean Peninsula as its reward. It is good enough. These land grabs are really correctives for overly generous communist Era allocations. They likely needed to be done anyway.
In the meantime the Ukraine becomes more surely independent as well..
