This is a wild story yet it is not the only case by far. For obvious reasons these corpses become venerated and are a source of inspiration. More critically it confounds our present knowledge of science.
We have recently have delved deeply into the problem of Spirit and soul so it has become plausible to lay out a conjecture that covers what is happening here. It is simply that the Spirit has the capacity to actually preserve its physical existence if it so chooses. It seems an odd choice but I suspect that in certain cases it actually becomes practical. Churchs are meant to last for centuries so preservation and attention becomes clearly possible as these examples show us.
Just as obviously in most cases it is not a real option at all and the spirit abandons the corpse to actually decay. The strartling thing remains that the spirit has this choice cat all.
Again we have come to understand that the spirit has a robust physical expression in terms of information content that is many orders of magnitude greater than the physical expression.
Padre Padilla’s corpse would continue to knock on the floor and erupt from his grave for many more years, each time looking completely intact and no more decomposed than he ever had. It wasn’t until the church covered the floor with concrete in the 1960s that such activity stopped. None of the phenomena associated with the corpse have ever been satisfactorily explained. It also remains a mystery as to whether Padre Padilla’s corpse is now finally at peace, or still knocking and clawing against the tons of concrete overhead, trying to get out once again.
